Job Summary

Responsible for processing and sterilization of clinical instruments.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Prepares and sterilizes instruments and treatment rooms.
    1. Collects, cleans, disinfects and sterilizes instruments after procedures according to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines.
    2. Operates autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners and handpiece cleaners according to manufacturer instructions and safety protocols.
    3. Inspects instruments for cleanliness, damage or wear, reports issues and replaces instruments as necessary.
    4. Performs deep cleaning and sterilization of operatories beyond daily maintenance.
    5. Follows the organization’s infection control protocols.
 
  1. Provides maintenance, documentation and support services.
    1. Performs biological  monitoring.
    2. Maintains autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners and handpiece cleaners according to  manufacturer’s instructions.
    3.  Maintains instrument processing, sterilization, biological monitoring and equipment maintenance logs.
    4. Organizes and stocks sterilized instruments in appropriate storage areas.
    5. Monitors and maintains sterilization supplies and inventory.
 
  1. Coordinates with the dental team to ensure efficient workflow.
    1. Communicates supply needs to the Practice Manager.
    2. Assists in maintaining compliance with infection control audits.
    3. Supports dental team through assistance with clinical and administrative tasks as assigned by the Practice Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

Possesses specific knowledge of sterilization processes and procedures, typcially acquired during completion of a certificate program in sterilization with a duration of up to a year.

Possesses advanced knowledge of sterilization processes and procedures and infection control guidelines.

Possess current Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) certification.
