Job Summary

Supports obstetric care delivery by coordinating patient scheduling, referrals, medical records, and clinical support services for OB patients while ensuring continuity of care with external partners and supports practitioners with clinical and administrative OB functions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Coordinates OB patient scheduling and referrals.
    1. Schedules pregnancy confirmation, transfer-of-care, postpartum, induction, C-section, newborn and follow-up visits.
    2. Reschedules missed OB visits and coordinates triage follow-up.
    3. Sends and tracks OB referrals, including ECU anatomy scans.
    4. Tracks follow-up ultrasound appointments.
  1. Manages OB medical records and documentation.
    1. Obtains patient release of information and scans prior OB records, pap tests, operative notes, and hospital records.
    2. Scans and sends ECU ultrasound reports and OB records at required intervals.
    3.  Maintains OB flowsheets and documentation.
  1. Provides OB clinical support services.
    1. Chaperones provider visit during pelvic exams and ultrasounds.
    2. Draws OB labs, administers vaccines, and places patients on NST machine.
    3.  Assists with IV therapy for hyperemesis.
    4. Performs post-partum depression screening.
    5. Obtains OB intake history and risk assessments.
    6. Manages pathology specimens and genetic testing forms.
      4. Communicates and coordinates with external providers and agencies to ensure continuity of care.
                a. Communicates with ECU OB coordinators regarding triage and hospital admissions.
                b. Answers OB triage hotline and relays provider recommendations.
                c. Assists providers with emergency response coordination.
                d. Manages OB Medical Home communication with Health Department social workers.
  1. Maintains OB equipment, supplies and patient education materials.
    1. Maintains patient handouts and education materials.
    2. Organizes and stores OB ultrasound images.
    3. Orders and manages OB supplies for NST and ultrasound equipment and maintains ultrasound equipment.
Qualifications and Skills
 
Possesses work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, technical or health care related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program.

Possesses specific knowledge of medical assisting processes and practices, typically acquired during completion of a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting with a duration of up to a year. 

Possesses advanced knowledge of obstetric workflows, including patient scheduling, medical records management, clinical procedures, patient eduation, and care coordination.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
